Froots, 2008 December
"Sweet of voice, elegant in tone and fragile in delivery, Cara is a far cry from the earthy Dolores Keane/Mary McPartlan school of traditional song inhabitation but her very demureness will always endear her to wider audiences. Hardly hardcore, then, but with Sam Lakeman directing operations with some subtly gorgeous arrangements built predominantly around his intricately empathetic piano, it's attractiveness prevails through the characteristic melancholy of her voice and the sadness endemic in most of the material"

"A cool, relaxed treatment of almost exclusively traditional songs on which Dillon's singing is as fine as ever and the variety is provided by the changes in instrumentation. So there's a swirl of whistle and uilleann pipes on the title track, drifting piano settings from Sam Lakeman on well-known songs such as The Parting Glass or She Moved Through the Fair, and a more urgent, upbeat treatment of Spencer the Rover, driven on by Seth Lakeman's guitar, vocals and fiddle work. A classy set"

"A beautifully balanced production, brimming with sparkling guitar, piano, wistful uilleann pipes and Dillon's shimmering vocals, this first release for her own Charcoal Records delivers a smoldering collection of traditional tunes. With the beguiling title track as the only original composition, the join between between old and new is seamless"

"On Hill Of Thieves, Dillon and her husband/producer Sam Lakeman have opted to keep things simple with the production rarely straying beyond a basic acoustic set-up. The result allows Dillon's crystal-clear vocals to shine through, and at times it sounds as if she is singing in the same room as the listener ... For the most part Hill Of Thieves is a thing of wondrous beauty. Comprising readings of well-known traditional folk songs there are highlights aplenty"

"Det er en cd, hvor Cara Dillons smukke stemme kommer til sin ret. Hendes mand akkompagnere hende diskret på alle numre undtaget et enkelt ... Ikke et album med de store armbevægelser, men smukt og følsomt sunget af Cara Dillon, som man kun kan nyde at lytte til"
